Member representing Atisbo/Saki East in the Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon Saminu Gbadamosi also known as Wale Canada, has made a case for adequate patrol of the various border communities in the Okeogun area of Oyo state to reduce the influx of foreigners into the state as well as curb the activities of kidnappers, bandits and other criminally minded people.
Saminu Gbadamosi said this during a meeting of the members of the Oyo state House of Assembly with the Customs Area Comptroller, Oyo / Osun Area Command, Abdullah Zilkifilu on Tuesday in, Ibadan.
Gbadamosi said the porous nature of our borders has led to the rise in the number of illegal immigrants and criminal cases in the Saki/Atisbo area of Oyo state.
The lawmaker maintained that many farmers are afraid of going to their farms because of the fear of being kidnapped or attacked by herdsmen.
Gbadamosi also decried the activities of some security agents at the borders and called for a synergy of activities among all the security personnels.
He promised to educate and enlighten people of his constituency on the need to always get necessary papers on whatever goods or items they are bringing in through the borders.
In his response, the Customs Area Comptroller, Oyo state Command, Abdullah Zilkifilu noted that adequate sharing and supply of information among security agencies will help enhance the efforts of the security operatives.
The Area Comptroller stressed that his officers at the various border communities are there to generate revenue for government and that they have been instructed to be civil in the discharge of their duties.
