On Saturday, April 6th, 2024, Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi’s initiative, Karim Adeyemi Foundation (KAF), joined the rest of the world in commemorating the United Nations’ International Day of Sports for Development and Peace (IDSDP) with the second edition of its annual IDSDP Essay Competition for Oyo State Public Secondary School Students.
The event, held at the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, brought together over forty students from various schools across Oyo State to reflect on the recent African Cup of Nations and explore its implications for this year’s IDSDP theme: “Sports for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies.”
Supported by Polaris Bank, the competition ensured that all participants received valuable educational gifts and certificates of participation fostering a spirit of learning and competition among the students.
Shedding more light on the objective of the event, Olamide Idowu, the Operations Manager of Karim Adeyemi Foundation, stated that the essay competition is organized to identify and recognize bright students for their academic and creative achievements, providing incentives for further education and personal development while inspiring positive change to build a more peaceful and inclusive world through the power of education and sports.
According to the United Nations, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, which takes place annually on 6 April, presents an opportunity to recognize the positive role sport and physical activity play in communities and in people’s lives across the globe.
Karim Adeyemi Foundation, with its core values centred around uplifting the less privileged through football, education, and empowerment, remains committed to its mission of creating prosperous communities and combating inequalities that perpetuate poverty.
Through initiatives like the IDSDP Essay Competition, the foundation continues to make strides in realizing its vision of a more inclusive and equitable society.
