In a bid to foster values of sportsmanship, education, and peacebuilding among young people, Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has announced the launch of the second edition of the Annual International Day of Sports for Development and Peace (IDSDP) Essay Competition.

Organized by Karim Adeyemi Foundation (KAF), the competition targets public secondary school students in Oyo State and promises to provide a platform for youth engagement and expression.

The inaugural edition of the competition saw students from Oladipo Alayande School of Science, Ikolaba Grammar School, and Oke – Ado High school clinching top honors. Notably, winners received cash prizes totalling up to N500,000, along with support for their WAEC and JAMB fees.

Inspired by the recent African Cup of Nations football tournament, this year’s essay competition invites students to discuss how sports can bring peace, togetherness and acceptance in diverse places like Nigeria. Participants.

The competition comprises two distinct phases: an Expression of Interest (EOI) phase and the Finals. During the EOI phase, students are encouraged to register for the final phase by showcasing their talents and viewpoints on the significance of sports and national pride.

The top entries will then proceed to the final round, where they will be delving into the essay topic within a timeframe.

Judges will evaluate entries based on criteria such as originality, creativity, clarity, and relevance to the essay topic. Successful finalists will not only receive cash prizes but also be awarded certificates in recognition of their achievements.

Commenting on the competition, KAF Chief Operating Officer, OlaOlu Adedayo, expressed enthusiasm about providing a platform for young talents to showcase their potential. He emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to empowering youth to become active citizens and leaders within their communities.

He further urged interested participants to visit Karim Adeyemi Foundation website or reach out directly to the KAF Office in Ibadan for more information on the essay competition.

The competition deadline for registration is set for March 25, 2024, with the final phase scheduled to take place at a designated CBT centre in Ibadan on April 6, coinciding with the global celebration of the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace.

Through initiatives like these, Karim Adeyemi Foundation aims to promote positive societal values and harness the potential of sports as a catalyst for social change and development.
