Thugs seem to have hijacked the peaceful protest in Ogbomoso as they invaded and destroyed properties at the Palace of Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III, InsideOyo.com reports.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare made this known in a tweet on his official twitter account on Sunday.
Sunday Dare said he alongside the monarch and council chiefs were scurried away by the Police and DSS.
His words: “Ogbomoso-Hoodlums, thugs & miscreants disrupted stakeholders meeting in Soun’s palace now-invading, stoning and breaking doors, glasses.
“Soun, myself and council chiefs were scurried into safety by the police and DSS. Ogbomoso youth are law-abiding. But hoodlums have taken over.
“The hoodlums broke into the palace and destroyed chairs, overturned tables, broke windows. These were not Youth or Students. These were miscreants and thugs who saw a window of opportunity in the protest which since abated. Thankfully.Soun, the chiefs, leaders of Parapo are safe.
“A combined team of operation Burst from Ibadan and a unit from Iliorin are now on ground in Ogbomoso to help keep the peace, protect the peaceful and innocent and also stop criminal elements. Soun of Ogbomosho yesterday and today personally appealed to this group to stop violence.”
Insideoyo. gathered that Youth in Ogbomoso this morning took to the streets to protest and demand justice for the death of one of them, Jimoh Isiaq, who was killed yesterday during the #ENDSARS protest.
Notable personalities in the state and country have called for investigation into the killing of Jimoh Isiaq. They urged the Police to bring the perpetrators to book.
Earlier, the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, has dissolved the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
This is coming after days of protest both locally and internationally calling for the end of the police unit.
