The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Saturday adopted the indirect primary ahead of 2019 general elections, insideOYO.com has gathered.
Punch reports that at a meeting attended by 26 governorship aspirants of the party in Ibadan and the state Governor Abiola Ajimobi, they all agreed to the choice, promising to support any of them that emerged as the party’s flag bearer.
The governor stated that all aspirants serving in his cabinet must resign immediately to show commitment to their aspiration.
He said the move was to reduce the number of aspirants for an easy primary.
He said that there would be no consensus candidates for all the positions and that he had no anointed candidate for the governorship position.
Insideoyo.com had earlier reported that Barr. Adebayo Shittu was absent from the meeting.
Amongst the attendees were former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Engr. Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Chief Bayo Adelabu, Sola Ayandele, Barr. Niyi Akintola, Alh. Olalekan Alli, Sen. Fatahi Buhari, Sunday Dare, Alh. Azeez Adeduntan, Adesoji Eniade, Omodewu and a host of others.
The national leadership of the party had recently released its schedule and timetable of activities stipulating Wednesday, 12th, September as the deadline for the collection and submission of nomination forms.
The party also fixed N850, 000 for the nomination forms for aspirants into the House of Assembly, N3.850million for House of Representatives aspirants, N7million for Senate aspirants and N22.5m for governorship aspirants.
