The two former council chairmen in Oyo State who were, on Monday, remanded by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over an alleged financial misconduct were last night released.
This was after a popular Ibadan-based senior advocate was drafted in.
InsideOyo.com learnt that the lawyers who were earlier contacted to secure their bail were unable to effect the bail as the application was turned down.
An EFCC source, however, confided in InsideOyo.com that they were released last night after the application was perfected, adding that ‘investigation continues’.
The commission has been inviting the ex-council bosses who served till May 2015 over an alleged withdrawal of N11 million each from the accounts of the various local government areas in the state.
For over a month, the commission was said to have invited many former council bosses in batches, over what the money was used for.
Inside Oyo had reported how the two chairmen allegedly told officials of the commission that they collected the money as the ‘chief security officers’ of their respective council areas but they could not provide any evidence of how and what the money was collected and used for . Not satisfied with their explanation, the commission was said to have remanded the duo.
