A group of leaders of thoughts and respected market leaders in Oyo State has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to expedite action on Iyaloja General of Oyo state tussle, saying they await final decision of the governor on the controversial issue.
According to them, the decision of the Governor would put an end to controversy surrounding the post of Iyaloja General of Oyo State which has created issues among market men and women in the state.
Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde spoke on the ongoing dispute over the position of Iyaloja-General in Oyo State, urging those promoting division to cease their actions.
The controversy, sparked by conflicting claims to the title by Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje and Princess Nurudeen Abeo, has caused unrest within the market community, raising concerns about its impact on commerce and unity in the state.
The governor, while addressing the issue at his Ikolaba private residence, emphasized the need for unity and discipline, calling on those behind the discord to refrain from further exacerbating tensions.
But a statement jointly signed by leader of Oyo State Market Council, Alhaji Kamorudeen Adegbayi and Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), stated that “now that the governor has spoken on the issue, they await whom the governor would give certificate of recognition to as real/authentic Iyaloja General of Oyo State.”
The statement said the decision of the governor on the matter as the Chief Executive of the state supercide any other decisions.
“As a democratically elected governor, who came on board under the rule of law and love of the people, we await him to give endorsing certificate to whoever he deem it fit to be the Iyaloja General of Oyo State, either Alhaja Saratu Konibaje who has seven blocs or Nurudeen Abeo that has just two blocs at the election conducted.
“When the whole issue started, government wades in and called for election among the two contenders, the election was supervised by Oyo State Ministry Justice, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Women Affairs, and Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Alhaja Saratu Konibaje has seven blocs while Nurudeen Abeo had just two.”
The statement thanked the Aare of Ibadanland and Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, Delta, Kwara and Kogi State, Alhaji Daud Akinola Makanjuola , Former President General, CCII, Oloye Bayo Oyero, Current CCII President General, Barr. Chief Niyi Ajewole and others stakeholders for their consistence efforts on the matter which eventually bring the issue to the notice of the governor.
Recall that elders and leaders in Ibadanland and other leaders of thoughts in Oyo state at several meeting resolved to opted for due process in resolving crisis currently rocking the post of Iyaloja-General of Oyo State.
The elders include former President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigiens (CCII) Chief Bayo Oyero, Aare Daud Makanjuola Akinola, Babaloja of Oyo State, Alhaji Y. K Abass, Alhaja Iyadunni, and the Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland , Engr. Chief Dotun Sanusi,
Others are current CCII President-General, Barr. Chief Niyi Ajewole, Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI) and the former Ag. Secretary General CCII, Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, and Mogaji Abass Oloko among others.
The due process, according to them led to the emergence of Alhaja Saratu Konibaje as the Iyaloja General of Oyo State, urging Makinde not to allow anyone to mislead him on the matter
