Mrs. Naomi Itajobi has officially taken over as the Western District Manager of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), with a commitment to improving staff welfare, enhancing infrastructure, and boosting revenue generation.
In a statement signed by the District Public Relations Officer, Olawale Ayeni, Mrs. Itajobi assumed duty on August 29, 2025, and has since embarked on a series of initiatives aimed at repositioning the district.
The statement explained that during her inspection of offices at the district headquarters, staff raised concerns about leaking roofs and dilapidated furniture. It added that Mrs. Itajobi immediately directed the District Engineer (DE(W)) and District Signal Officer (DSO(W)) to provide palliative repairs and formally request replacements from the NRC headquarters.
According to Ayeni, she also donated her own office chair to the DA(W)’s secretary and provided a chair and table for the DS(W) as an immediate gesture, also further noting that on September 3, 2025, the new manager paid a visit to the District Industrial Clinic. There, she met with staff to boost morale, emphasized the importance of a healthy workforce for productivity, and encouraged them to give their best. It added that she also visited patients at the clinic, offering words of hope and donating ₦50,000 to support their medical bills.
On infrastructure, the statement revealed that Mrs. Itajobi directed the District Mechanical Engineer (DMEER(W)) to repair a rail-road vehicle of economic importance and promised to follow up on the need for a new jack to be used at derailment sites.
Ayeni added that her tenure has already recorded an operational milestone, with the successful passage of a cement rake train that had been stranded for three months at Offa station following washouts at kilometre points 288 and 294. With the tracks repaired, the train was able to proceed through Ibadan for onward dispatch to Ewekoro.
Mrs. Itajobi is also said to be pursuing strategic partnerships. On September 9, 2025, she hosted the Operations Manager of Maerskline, Mr. Rotimi Atolagbe, to explore possible collaborations with British American Tobacco (BAT).
The discussion, it added, is expected to boost economic activities and increase revenue for the Corporation.
“The new district manager has shown clear commitment to staff welfare, infrastructure renewal, and operational efficiency. With her leadership, the Western District is poised for growth and productivity,” the PRO stated.
