The Chairman of Iseyin Local Government Council of Oyo State, Mr Abolade Yekeen, has provided 200 hectares of land at Paago village for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for farming.
NYSC spokesperson in the state, Mr Simeon Bankole, quoted the corps’ state coordinator, Mrs Ifeoma Anidobi, as commending the chairman over the gesture during a visit.
According to NYSC, an elated Anidobi was happy with the choice of the farmland because of its accessibility and proximity to the main road.
Tribune quoted Anidobi as giving an assurance that the land would be put to good use, adding that the council had played pivotal roles in making the NYSC to excel.
The coordinator, however, appealed to the council chairman to continue to assist the NYSC, especially during the orientation exercise.
Yekeen, on his part, said the establishment of the NYSC had contributed significantly to national development.
The statement quoted the council chairman as saying that Nigerians, irrespective of diversity of language and cultural background, are eager to learn during the service year.
The chairman assured the NYSC that he would continue to support the scheme like his predecessors.
