Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has promised to renovate of both State and Local Government INEC offices before the commencement of 2019 general elections.
The chairman stated this when he paid a day visit to Oyo State Office on Wednesday, September, 19, 2018.
Prof Yakubu stated further that, the Commission was poised at making sure that the conduct of credible free and fair elections remained one of the cardinal principles of INEC adding that the Commission was committed at ensuring staff welfarism as one of the uppermost priorities.
The Chairman maintained that, the use of mobile phones in the polling booth would no longer be allowed as a means of curbing the menace of Vote buying/selling by politicians, using Osun State Gubernatorial election coming up this Saturday as a ‘litmus’ test.
The Host Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC)Barr. Mutiu Agboke also used the occasion to intimate the Chairman and his team of some of the recent electoral activities being carried out in the State.
One of which was the setting up of ‘Call Desks’ at the State Office as one of the strategies employed to reduce the large number of unclaimed 657,790 PVCs.
