Hon. Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved internal conflicts that have weakened the party at both constituency and state levels.
In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman, Ward 4, Isale Penbo, Igbo-Ora, Ibarapa Central, Adepoju said the protracted crisis had not only affected his legislative duties but also created a deep rift in the party’s leadership structure in Oyo State.
“You are aware of my unalloyed loyalty and dedication to the ideals and principles of the PDP since securing the party’s ticket in 2022, which ultimately resulted in my electoral victory in 2023,” the lawmaker wrote.
“However, the crisis rocking the party has negatively affected my assignment as a federal lawmaker and hindered my ability to effectively serve the people of my constituency.”
“This resignation is made to allow me to focus on the mandate given to me by the people of Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North and to serve them to the best of my ability,” he stated.
While acknowledging that the decision may disappoint his supporters at home and abroad, Adepoju assured that he would disclose his next political direction in due course.
“I regret how this resignation may be received by my millions of followers at home and abroad and I assure everyone that my next political move will be made known in due course,” he added.
For now, the federal lawmaker says his priority is to remain focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North, without the constraints of internal party wrangling.
