More than 100 residents of Oluawo Bolorunduro in Amuloko, Ibadan, received monthly food packs on Monday as the George Aid Foundation extended its humanitarian outreach to the community.
The distribution, held at the Oluawo Bolorunduro community centre, is part of the foundation’s ongoing monthly food intervention aimed at cushioning economic hardship among vulnerable households.
Speaking at the event, representative of the George Aid Foundation, Rotarian Kunle Aare, said the Oluawo community was selected through the recommendation of a loyal friend of the foundation who highlighted the needs of landlords and residents in the area.
“Some of the landlords in this community truly need the monthly food pack, and that is why we are here today,” Rotarian Aare said.
Community Applauds Non-Political Support
The General Chairman of the Oluawo Bolorunduro Amuloko Community Association, Comrade Adisa Gafar, expressed gratitude to the foundation for reaching out to the area, noting that the association oversees more than 16 communities within Amuloko.
“We appreciate the George Aid Foundation for coming down to our community to distribute food packs to those who really need it,” Comrade Gafar said.
Former General Chairman of the Landlords and Residents Association, Mr. Olusegun Akinrinsola, alongside Chairman of Ifesowapo Zone 1 Oluawo, Sunday Olapade, and Mr. Moses Olagoke, also thanked the foundation for the gesture. They urged the initiators to consider residents who were not captured in the May distribution for subsequent editions.
Several landlords and landladies at the event described the intervention as unique, noting that it was the first time the community had benefited from a monthly food support program “devoid of politicking.”
Community leaders at the event called on other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the foundation’s approach in supporting grassroots communities.
The foundation said it remains committed to reaching more beneficiaries across Ibadan in the coming months, with plans to review and expand the list of recipients.
