Ibadan-born media expert, Asiwaju Olasunkanmi Olanrewaju, has commended his kinsmen and African immigrants in the United States for their efforts in preserving and promoting African culture in the diaspora.
Olasunkanmi who is the Executive Director of the All African Festival USA, made this statement during the inaugural edition of the festival, held on August 31, 2024.
The event, which showcased indigenous African cuisines, mesmerizing performances, and vibrant displays, was a celebration of African culture with unparalleled pride and glamour.
The traditional Egungun showcase by the West African team, led by Nigerians, was a highlight of the festival.
Olasunkanmi emphasized the importance of preserving African cultural heritage, especially for future generations.
“It’s crucial we remind ourselves of our roots and provide our children with a glimpse of their ancestral heritage, beyond what they read online,” he said.
The festival’s diversity reflected the rich tapestry of African immigration to the United States. Olasunkanmi noted that the All African Festival USA stands out from other cultural events due to its genuine and indigenous showcase of African artifacts and inclusive approach.
The maiden edition provided a platform for African children to demonstrate their talents in music, dance, art, and crafts, promoting cultural exchange and unity.
