The lawmaker representing Ibadan North East Constituency 1 in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Babalola (Integrity), has declared that he would not seek a third term in office, saying he has no intention of returning to contest for the same legislative seat after completing his second term in 2031.
Babalola made the declaration on Saturday, while featuring as guest on a popular Yoruba current affairs programme public titled “Gbangba-Lasaata”, anchored by Abiodun Adewole, popularly known as Mr Double A, on Splash FM.
The lawmaker, while speaking on his political future, dismissed any speculation that he would attempt to remain in the Oyo State House of Assembly beyond two terms.
“I swear to God, I won’t contest for the third term. I have no business contesting for the same seat for the third time. God forbid I contest for a third term,” Babalola said.
Babalola, who highlighted his legislative contributions and interventions as a representative of his constituency, said his focus had remained on delivering quality representation through people-oriented initiatives, bills and facilitated projects.
He explained that his tenure had been dedicated to using his position to attract development and address the needs of his constituents, while also contributing to the growth of the state through legislative duties.
The lawmaker also spoke on the recent rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, commending the federal and state government and security agencies for their response in ensuring the safe return of the victims.
He described the successful rescue operation as a demonstration of commitment by the government towards protecting residents and maintaining security across the state.
Babalola praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration for the action taken during the incident, noting that the quick intervention helped restore confidence among residents.
Meanwhile, Hon. Babalola lauded the state government under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde for commencing reconstruction work on Iya-Alaanu River, at Ode-Aje Agugu Road; describing it as a result of solution journalism Vission of the Programme anchor who has always called government’s attention of the said river and more.
“Mr. Double A, I think you deserve to be commended for your investigative and solution oriented journalism drive which has prompted the governor to inspect the river and commence the reconstruction work immediately, which I believe will be completed soon. “ Babalola said.
Mr. Double A however returned the accolade back to the almighty God who has given him grace to impact society positively with heart of gratitude to the management of Splash FM for providing him the enabling environment to do his job professionally and peacefully; he did not end his response without showing gratitude to Governor Makinde for being responsive, with prayers for more success for this administration.
The Oyo State House of Assembly, where Babalola serves as a member, is the legislative arm responsible for lawmaking, oversight and representation of various constituencies in the state.
