Lawmaker representing Ibadan North West / Ibadan South West federal constituency, Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi has disclosed that his beard is not for any ulterior motive.
The two-term lawmaker stated this in an interview with Inside Oyo, in Ibadan, during the week.
According to him, it was not deliberate. “There was a day I was away and I forgot to shave for a week. And when I looked into the mirror, I saw that it fits me and I decided to leave it. It is not for anything ulterior.
“For instance a leader of the party came to me and said I have started keeping beards because I am moving with northerners. I just laughed,” he explained jokingly.
Talking on how he spends his day, he noted: “I wake up in the morning, go to the National Assembly, attend committee meeting and other extra meetings. Then I retire back to enjoy the day with my family.”
He, however, cautioned online reporters to be fair with their reportage. ”It is very important. Just don’t attack anybody; let’s make our researches, let’s seek for information and come out with a concrete conclusion. That doesn’t mean you won’t criticise anyone, but do it after you might have made a lot of research. For anybody to come up and say Fijabi has not moved any motion, that means the person isn’t talking from an angle of information. You just want to attack me personally which you cannot. I have done close to 20 motions, bills.”
He narrated how a blogger wrote an untrue story about him. “There was this guy in Lagos. He wrote about me that I am the randiest honourable member in Abuja. The next week, he wrote that I impregnated one account officer in Zenith Bank. I have never in my life banked with Zenith. How will somebody who doesn’t have an account with the bank have an account officer? We should do research,” he advised.
