Newly inaugurated chairman of the Nigeria Lottery Regulatory Commission, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, has declared interest in Oyo South senatorial seat.
Ibikunle, who hails from Lanlate town of Ibarapa East local government, was personal assistant to late former governor Lamidi Adesina till he died in 2012.
He told insideoyo.com that he is the best man to represent the district from 2019, adding that his ambition is divine.
The seat is currently occupied by Sen. Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi who is believed to be nursing ambition to succeed Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Though Akanbi has not officially declared his governorship ambition, Ajimobi, through his aides led by his executive assistant on political matters, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, have been going about, telling people about the governor’s ambition to return to The Senate where he was between 2003 and 2007.
With Ibikunle’s declaration, Ajimobi may have it tough clinching the ticket as the former equally enjoys support from party faithful, especially the faction loyal to former governor Adesina.
Insideoyo.com learnt that Ibikunle was instrumental to how Ajiimobi got the then Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN’s ticket in 2011.
Before both politicians fell out, Ibikunle was his special adviser on political matters.
