Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Executive Committee members of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, over some issues regarding the conduct of council election in the state.
This is coming few days after the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, announced May 12th, 2018 as date for the election.
The meeting, insideoyo.com gathered, is crucial due to OYSIEC’s deadline of February 14th, 2018 as last day for the conduct of primaries by all the parties.
Sources, who preferred anonymity, told insideoyo.com that the party would go for primary election ‘in order to be fair to all aspirants and to minimise post-election crisis.”
This is just as it was learnt that more than 10 of the current caretaker chairmen didn’t obtain nomination form. As at the time of filing this report, it was unsure whether the party is going to resell the form to enable them, and new defectors, to be eligible for primary election.
It was also learnt that the party may come up with its own guideline for conduct of primaries after the meeting.
Meanwhile, party leaders from across the state are spoiled for war. This, it was learnt, is due to the rumoured imposition of candidates for the election.
One of them who spoke to insideoyo.com on the condition of anonymity said “it would be better if the governor can allow all aspirants to go for primaries. Everybody will be happy for it at the end of the day. After the primaries, the governor and the leaders of the party can now call them to a roundtable and settle any difference that might arise.”
