Muslim Coalition Against COVID1-19, a group formed to reduce the negative impact of Coronavirus on the people on Saturday donated relief materials to no fewer than five hundred less privileges in Oyo state.
The items distributed are Rice, Beans and Garri.
Coordinator of the group in Oyo state, Alhaji Abideen Ladeji, while presenting the items to the beneficiaries in Ibadan said the program would at the first instance covered 10 Local Government areas in Oyo State.
He noted that the group is made up of about 47 Muslim group in Nigeria and their aim was to reduce the suffering of the less privilege in Nigeria during this lockdown coursed by rampaging coronavirus in the whole world.
Ladeji listed the local governments to include Afijio, Atiba, Ibarapa, Ogbomoso North , Ogbomoso South ,Ibadan North, Ibadan North West, Ibadan South West, Akinyele and Lagelu.
He added that five Muslim organisations that would be handling two each of the 10 local government are The Muslim Congress (TMC), Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Al-Muminat, Dawah Front and MSSN.
“The beneficiaries are basically the poor , people with disabilities, these are people who are mostly affected by this lockdown due to Coronavirus. The beneficiaries will be both Muslims and non-Muslims , 500 of this packs is for 10 local governments in Oyo State.
“We are starting this distribution with five states namely Abuja, Lagos, PortHacourt ,Oyo and Osun states and we have spent over N5 million for the pilot scheme”.
He said that the coalition targeted N500 million to be spent on the vulnerable throughout Nigeria, adding that they are still coming back to Oyo State and as well a cover more states.
Ladeji said that the coalition picked the five organisation and community leaders because they are the ones that know the most vulnerable in their community.
Mr. Tijani Abdullah, one of the beneficiaries commended the gesture, saying it come at the appropriate time.
“A lot of physically challenge persons are just there at home suffering from hunger at this period of COVID-19 pandemic luckdown, we really appreciate this gesture”.
The Chief Imam of Lalupon, Shelkh Waliyulah Otegbeye, said the palliatives would make relief in term of difficulty faced by the less privilege in the society.
Otegbeye said been one of the leaders in the community, he knows that a lot of people are really suffering because they do come to him regularly seeking for assistance.
