The gubernatorial candidate of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the last Governorship election in Oyo State, Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao has felicitates with the Christians and the people of Oyo State on the occasion of this year’s Christmas.
In a statement released from his political office, the Oman based Oil and Gas magnate enjoined Christian faithfuls to use this period to pray for the state and extend hands of fellowship to neighbours and people of other religions.
While noting that over the years, the people of the state have lived in harmony, he calls for sustenance of religious tolerance and togetherness.
Alao who has refrained from commenting on political happenings after the general elections stated that government at all levels must work for the people with due regards for the rule of law.
“Having refrain from commenting of governance issues after the elections, it is imperative to remind government at all levels, especially Gov. Seyi Makinde that it is not enough to have good intentions but working with a policy that is sustainable is the hallmark of good governance. ”
“While I can not downplay some reforms Gov. Makinde has embarked on since assumption of office on May 29th, one would have expected that someone who has being in the race for many years before finally making it should be implementing policies based on already established and detailed blueprint. A good engineer is methodical, thoughtful and thorough.”
“Selective execution of policies without blueprint is a mere self serving and playing to the gallery. While free education is incontrovertible a laudable program, it should be holistic. Refusal to pay WAEC/NECO fee is not justifiable. There is no point giving free education to students whose parents will not be able to enroll for exams.”
On the constitution and subsequent swearing-in of Local Government and LCDA caretaker Chairmen and Chairpersons, Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao wish the government should have done better by respecting the rule of law.
“As politicians and leaders, we should not be double-faced. We cannot continue condemning the Federal Government’s penchant for the rule of law while at the same time hailing our governor for doing the worse. I have always maintained that every tiers of government should be independent. Governors should have no business on how local government is being governed. After all, the Federal Government is not imposing governor on any state of the federation. It is sad that someone who just benefited from rule of law would stoop so low to appease political rabble rouser by assaulting the constitution of the land. All these juvenile approach to governance must cease forthwith.”
While felicitating with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), other Christian bodies, the royal fathers and the entire people of Oyo State, I wish the Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde a happy birthday, merry Christmas and prosperous new year in advance.
