Students under the aegis of Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU) have alleged that the Oyo state government duped about 20,000 students from the state.
The students who protested at the state government’s secretariat in Ibadan included other issues like hike in school fees, unpaid bursary and persistent strike by lecturers in tertiary institutions owned by the state as part of their grievances.
Azeez Sharafudeen, President of the union, told InsideOyo.com in an interview that the government is not ready to pay the BURSARY yet “dubiously asked our students to purchase the form online with N1,200 per head thereby generating million of naira”.
The student leader said there will also mass mobilisation if the government fails to attend to their needs in 21 days.
On the government side, Dr. Bisi Akin-Alabi told InsideOyo.com that the government had met the students demand by sorting the lingering lecturers’ crisis in the state and payment of backlog salaries.
She said the only grievance they have is that of lack of bursary but did not state much about it.
“We have sorted the lingering ASUU strike to the lecturers agitation over the backlog of salaries. The Governor agreed to pay all the backlog starting from this month, ” Dr. Akin-Alabi told InsideOyo.com.
