Former two-term member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dada Awoleye, has strongly condemned the alleged impeachment plot against Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing it as a calculated attempt to undermine the democratic will of the people and destabilize the state.
According to a statement by the Oyo South Senatorial Aspriant ahead of 2027 polls, on Wednesday, Awoleye dismissed the allegations as both alarming and unacceptable.
He warned that any attempt to truncate the mandate freely given to the governor would be fiercely resisted by lovers of democracy and good governance.
“The rumoured impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde is not only mischievous but also an affront to the collective will of the people of Oyo State.
“It is a dangerous distraction that threatens the stability and developmental strides our state has recorded under his leadership,” he stated.
Awoleye noted that Makinde’s administration has remained committed to transparency, infrastructural renewal, and economic growth, earning the trust and confidence of the electorate.
According to him, any move to forcefully remove the governor through unconstitutional means would set a troubling precedent for democratic governance in Nigeria.
Reacting to allegations of financial inducement against members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, the former lawmaker called for caution and due diligence, urging security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.
“These claims must not be treated lightly. However, they must also not be weaponised to discredit democratic institutions or tarnish reputations without credible evidence.
If proven false, they should be condemned in the strongest terms; if true, the government must get to the bottom of the matter,” he stated.
Awoleye expressed confidence in the integrity of the Oyo State legislature, urging lawmakers to remain steadfast in upholding constitutional order and resisting any pressure capable of eroding public trust.
He further called on political actors to prioritize peace, dialogue, and the rule of law over personal ambition, stressing that governance should never be reduced to a theatre of intrigue.
“Oyo State is not a battleground for political vendettas. It is a land of honour, history, and enlightened leadership and we’re so known for it.
“All stakeholders must act with restraint and patriotism in the interest of our people,” he added.
Reaffirming his support for Makinde’s administration, Awoleye urged residents of the state to remain calm and vigilant, expressing confidence that truth and justice would ultimately prevail.
“Democracy thrives on the rule of law, not conspiracy. The people of Oyo State must stand united in defence of their mandate and the progress they have chosen,” he concluded.
