The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III has revealed how he never thought Prof. Adeolu Akande would ever end up in the classroom despite the fact that he had known him since childhood.
Many were surprised when the reverred monarch, who spoke over the weekend at the 10th Anniversary of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Otu, headquarters of Itesiwaju local government, where Akande hails from, made the disclosure.
Akande was a political editor with Nigerian Tribune, regional editor (South West) with The Punch and later political science lecturer at the University of Ibadan before being appointed in 2001, as a senior special assistant in The Presidency. He was a Chief of Staff to Governor Abiola Ajimobi and now lectures at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
According to Oba Adeyemi, who had earlier visited the residence of his friend, Pa J.O Akinyemi, “I have known Adeolu since he was a child; he was brilliant but I never knew he was going to reach this height by becoming a professor. The Church should continue to pray for him so that this Ministry will continue to soar higher…”
Oba Adeyemi, however, extolled the virtue of General Ajibola Kunle Toogun of the Military Intelligence Unit, describing him as an officer with an untainted record of service.
Speaking earlier, Pastor J.O. Egunsola, thanked the monarch for gracing the event, adding that said Akande has always assisted the Ministry generously since inception.
