Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Sunday surprised the chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde as he graced his 57th birthday celebration.
This is just as Ajimobi praised ‘Fele’ as he is popularly known, for his efforts towards ending thuggery among transporters in the state.
According to Ajimobi, NURTW was a major stakeholder in the peace the state has been experiencing, recalling that prior to his administration, the state was like a theatre of war with various factions engaging in supremacy battle.
He, however, said that since ‘Fele’, who doubles as the chairman of NURTW in the South West, came on board, the music has change.
Hear him: “NURTW under Fele has been a major contributor to the peace we are enjoying in the state; I don’t normally attend birthday parties, but Fele has been a good partner in progress with this administration.
“The best way to state my assesment is my visit to this place, epitomise my assessment of the NURTW boss, since we came in as a government and since he came in as the chairman of the state NURTW, there has been peace, security and progress in the state.
“NURTW in Oyo State today is synonymous with peace and progress and so that is why I am visiting him to confirm our appreciation for the support of the NURTW to the peaceful co-existence in Oyo State and that is why when people try to return to brigandage and to use the Olubadan chieftaincy misunderstanding to use it to start thurggery again, I am glad we called NURTW, not to participate in anything.
‘so I’m very happy with him and wishing him many happy returns on his birthday.’
In his remark, Oyerinde thanked the governor for visit.
