The Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state to contribute their own quota to the national development.
He made this call during the official opening/swearing-in ceremony for the 2018 batch “B” (Stream 1) corps members deployed to the state, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ogbakuta, Iseyin on Thursday.
Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Adeyemo, said the NYSC one year mandatory service was designed towards ensuring that the youths contribute their own quota to the country’s growth and national development.
“As you all know, this is a clarion call to contribute profoundly your quota to the overall growth and development of our dear fatherland, with consistent display of resilience and hardwork.
“The National Youth Service Corps is a beacon of hope and reference point when it comes to productive channelling of youthful intelligence, energy and skills for national development,” he said.
He, however, assured the corps members of the sustained conducive environment throughout their service year.
“Oyo State under my administration will continue to ensure that conducive and secure environment already established are maintained all through your service year,” he said.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Oyo State NYSC coordinator, Mrs Ifeoma Anidobi, said a total number of 2,213 corps members were registered, comprising 1,066 males and 1,047 females.
Anidobi urged the corps members to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities and to contribute meaningfully to the development of any community they find themselves.
The 2,213 corps members were officially sworn in by Justice Eni Esan, who represented the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Muktar Abimbola, at the ceremony.
