The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI) has elected Kayode Adebowale of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the institution, Insideoyo.com has gathered.
This election, which the UI Registrar, Olubunmi Faluyi described as “well-contested” was held on Monday, 28th May, 2018 on the University’s campus.
Professor Adebowale defeated Professor Emmanuel Adebowale Salako of the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture.
With his election, he will replace the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ambrose Emilolorun Aiyelari whose tenure ends on 10th June, this year.
Earlier in a special release endorsed by the Registrar on 21st May, 2018, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka had “in accordance with the provision of Section 4(2) and (3) of Decree no 11 of 1993 (NOW Act 1993): where a vacancy occurs in the post of the Deputy-Vice Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor shall forward a list of two candidates for the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor that is vacant for election and the candidates with the majority of votes cast will be elected”, nominated Prof. Adebowale and Prof. Salako for election.
Director of Public Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo told Educeleb that the name of the newly elected Deputy Vice-Chancellor will be forwarded to Council for confirmation at its next meeting.
Adebowale, a Professor of chemistry and Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science has through his profound scholarship positively projected the image of the University, nationally and internationally.
He had all his educational qualifications at the University of Ibadan and his research specialisation is in Industrial, Food, Analytical and Environmental Chemistry.
