InsideOyo.com looks at some of the controversial issues surrounding his government.

1. Proscription of Nurtw

Two days after inauguration as governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde placed ban on the activities of National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state,

He had said it was imperative to put a stop to the untoward activities of the union in the State, as his administration has promised the citizenry of growth in human and commercial activities on assumption of office.

“While appreciating the good people of Oyo State for your steadfastness overtime and support for our administration, I want to reiterate our stand on the need to maintain peace and tranquility in our State in order to engender commercial and human development.” he said.

2. Sack of LG Chairmen

In May 2019, he also dissolved all local government chairmen, the decision generated a lot of controversy and the matter is currently in a court.

His Chief of Staff, Chief Bisi Ilaka, had asked the Council chairmen to handover to the head of local government administration or the most senior directors in their local government areas and councils.

Insideoyo.com reports how Ilaka without being sworn in as the Chief of Staff signed the release on behalf of the governor

3. Constitution of political bigwigs into advisory Council

Makinde’s appointment of political bigwigs in the state into an advisory council also generated controversy as Oyo residents and political analysts saw the move as a way to silent political rivals most especially those from the coalition team

Until now, rumour has it that former governorship candidate, Sharafadeen Alli rejected the offer. At the inauguration he was absent but Alli said he was on a trip to Abuja. Governor Makinde at the maiden edition of his media chat also said there was no rift with the coalition government.

Insideoyo.com reports that the Oyo Advisory Council has Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola as Chairman of the Committee.

Other members of the committee include former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Mulika Akande Adeola; Chief Jacob Adetoro and Barr. Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli. Also on the list are Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN); Mr. Joseph Olaitan, Mni; Hon. Kamil Akinlabi; Senator Monsura Sunmonu; Chief Gboyega Laoye and Prof. Kolapo Hamzat.

4. Accusing Ajimobi’s Appointees of stealing Govt vehicle without listing them

The Governor Seyi Makinde-led government has also accused aides and commissioners of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi of carting away vehicles and other property allegedly belonging to the state government.

During the media chat monitored by insideoyo.com, he also reiterated the former Oyo Head of Service, Mrs Hannah Ogunesan went away with government car. Former governor Abiola Ajimobi and his party, APC, have denied this allegation.

5. Threat to Expose Former Governor Abiola Ajimobi: Governor Seyi Makinde had on many occasions threatened to expose the shady dealings of former governor Abiola Ajimobi. While the All Progressives Congress (APC) has told him to go ahead, the former governor has also said that he is not afraid of being probe.

Insideoyo.com recalls that Makinde during the electioneering period said he has no business with probing the past administrations. He added that his business is to move Oyo state forward and not looking back. But ongetting to office, Makinde threatened to expose the former governor if he does not stop distracting him from governance.

This, many pundits have said it’s not necessary. Probing of past administration should not be a threa, it’s better to be done and if otherwise, there should not be any threat.
