The lawmaker representing Oyo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Prince Akeem Adeyemi has explained that his new bill – A Bill For An Act To Provide For The Establishment Of The Bureau Of Military Veterans Affairs seeks to accord war veterans and their dependants some after-service benefits.
Speaking with insideoyo.com in Abuja, he said if the bill is passed, war veterans and their families will be enjoy some welfare packages from government, adding that “sacrifices made by our war veterans in the service of the nation and their roles in the protection of national boundaries and territorial integrity of Nigeria deserve to be honoured.
Highlighting the benefits in the bill, he said there would be compensation for disabling injuries, psychological trauma and terminal diseases resulting from their participation in military activities.
He added that the welfare packages also included “provision of education, training and skills development to the veterans and their dependants; facilitation of easy access to pension after meritorious service to the nation and others.”
