The Chairman of Amalgamated Commercial Tricycles and Motorcycles Owners, Repairs and Riders Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, (ACOMORAN), Dr Solomon Olugbode has called on motorcycle, tricycle operators and other motorists across the state to be extra careful and drive safely as the yuletide season approaches.
Dr. Olugbode, who stated this during Ember Month Safety Campaign organised by the association on Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital, urged ACOMORAN members to be law abiding and have respect for security agents whenever they see them on the road.
The ACOMORAN Chairman said Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration is aware of nefarious activities by some unscrupulous elements who use motorcycle riding to perpetrate evils, hence the government’s decision to register all transport unions in the state.
He called on all public transport operators to co-operate with the state government and ensure that their biodata are captured in government database in order to flush out bad eggs who hide under motorcycle operation to cause social unrest and other crimes.
Dr. Olugbode used the opportunity to present the association’2024 budget proposal to members present at the event, while he also inaugurated different committees who will work with the office of the chairman to achieve their stated goals.
The committees include the followings:
Welfare Committee, Social Committee, Media Committee and Finance Committee.
Others are Educatin Committee, Task Force Committee and Disciplinary Committee.
“Today, I am presenting you our action plan and budget for ACOMORAN Oyo State Chapter for the year 2024. I know this may be strange or even appear difficult to achieve especially in the transport world where people think nothing good can ever come from Nazareth. This is Oyo State, the pacesetter State, the home of First University, First Technical University, First Television Station etc.
“Our Journey for the year 2024 will go with plan and budget and committees inaugurated here today for the success of our plan.” Olugbode stated.
Olugbode expressed hope that the committees, which are full of competent and resourceful people, will help ACOMORAN regain its glory and take the association to a better pedestal.
“Our hope and aspiration is to organize three three seminars/workshop which will cut across Road Safety, Security, Entrepreneurship and Agriculture.
“We hope to have Adult Education or Literacy Class where our people can have at least knowledge to read and write. It is believed that; He who knows nothing believes anything. We hope to extend our income from daily ticket by investing in transport and agriculture to fix into the policy of Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration.
“We plan to have soft loans for our members in various Local Governments. There will be zero tolerance for crimes and all forms of indiscipline
“It is our plan to support the government on data collection of all riders in the State, Oyo State is a home of hospitality, people exercise their freedom but must be accountable for their action. Ghost riders will not be entertained.
“The welfare of those who had once worked in ACOMORAN to legalized Commercial Motorcycle/Tricycle till date will also be given consideration.
“Finally, we have been able to achieve success in so many areas due to enabling environment created by Makinde-led administration. ACOMORAN will always be grateful for the humanitarian approach given to governance in Oyo State. The contribution and trust from the executive and members cannot be overlooked too. My special appreciation goes to Otunba Balogun Seye Famojuro, the National President of ACOMORAN Alh. Ambassador Samsudeen Apelogun (All Rounder), Alh. Akeem Adebayo (Kuso), Chairman PMS Tipper & Lorry, Alh. Abdulwasiu Omolewa; and Tommy, Chairman of PMS. I wish all of us a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year in advance.” Olugbode said.
The highlight of the event was sensitisation rally across Ibadan led by the ACOMORAN chairman himself, Dr Olugbode.
