Knocks and kudos across social media on Friday as Governor Seyi Makinde-led government banned the activities of National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, InsideOyo.com gathered.
The government made the announcement at a press conference held at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s office in Ibadan.
Makinde, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Chief Bisi Ilaka said it was imperative to put a stop to the untoward activities of the union in the State, as his administration has promised the citizenry of growth in human and commercial activities on assumption of office.
The government said the reason for banning the activities of the transport union is to ensure peace and orderliness and warned members to desist from tormenting crisis and create tension in the State.
The NURTW ban was greeted with divergent views from Nigerians on the social media platforms. A survey conducted by InsideOyo.com since the announcement shows that while some hailed the decision of the government, other question how the government can proscribed an association that is recognised by law and some expressed feelings as to how the government intend to generate revenue from the transport sector.
