The Chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission Commission, Rt Hon Abdulwasi Musah, PhD, has said that the commission is fully prepared to turn around the staff in the Legislature for them to put in their best and play their roles for effective service delivery.

The Former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly said this, on Wednesday,  at the training organized by the commission for officers on GL 08 – GL 12 in the legislative service.

He said different programmes have been packaged to take care of needs of both staff of the House of Assembly and the Commission.

He allayed the fear that the training programme was meant for certain officers in the Legislature saying all the members of staff will adequately take part in different programmes as relevant to their duties.

He pledged that the commission is fully prepared to turn around the staff in the Legislature for them to put in their best and play their roles for effective service delivery.

He commended Governor Seyi Makinde for signing the Financial Management Law and for taking the training and retraining of both civil and public officers a priority in order to enable them become more proficient on their different schedule of duties in the service.

He appreciated the speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, members of the Assembly and commissioners of the commission.

His words: “It is on record that the people’s Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde since the inception of this administration has given Training and Retraining of both Civil and Public officers a priority in order to enable them become more proficient on their different schedule of duties in the service. There is no doubt that with the paucity of fund, our Governor has continued to fulfill his promise of prompt payment of salaries to both serving and retired officers without fail. This does not exclude payment of gratuity to the retirees.

“Kudos to our Governor who out of his magnanimity signed the Financial Management Law which serves as a springboard for the Legislative arm to stand in order to deliver its mandate. This by extension has strengthened the House of Assembly Service Commission to play its role as a statutory agency through capacity building of the workers. On our part as a Commission, we are fully prepared to turn around the staff in the Legislature for them to put in their best and play their roles for effective service delivery.

“In a way of spreading the capacity training to all categories of officers, different programmes have been packaged to take care of their needs both at the House of Assembly and the Commission. This is to allay the fear that the training programme is meant for certain officers in the Legislature whereas all the members of staff will adequately take part in different programmes as relevant to their duties.

“The theme of this workshop which is being organized for the particular members of staff will in no small measure bring gains for better job performance by the officers as they are the target audience. Consequently, I congratulate the staff of the Legislature for being able to attend this laudable programme and advise you to pay rapt attention. I warmly welcome you all for your attendance in response to our invitation. Thank you and GOD bless.”

Also speaking, the Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin charged the staff on protection of moral, values alongside work ethics and keeping of government secrets.

Ogundoyin who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Muhammed Fadeyi condemned the leakages of information, memos on social media by some civil and public servants.

He urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop for positive change and progress.

He commended the chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission, Rt Hon Musah Abdulwasi and the management of the commission.

Also, the secretary to the state government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, while speaking, said ethics is essential to ensure compliance adding that civil and public servants must deploy professionalism, discipline in their work.

Adeosun who was represented by Mr Adedayo Ayorinde, Permanent Secretary, General Admin said Governor Seyi Makinde has shown commitment to the welfare of civil and public servants for effective service delivery and higher productivity.

Similarly, Alhaja Hamidat Agboola, the State Head of Service, said training and retraining will increase work value adding that the Seyi Makinde-led administration has implemented policies which have been very helpful to the workforce in the state.

Agboola, who was represented by Mr Babatunde Adeyanju, Permanent Secretary, Service Matters urged the participants and the entire workforce to do away with bad habits.

Some notable personalities at the event were commissioners at the Oyo Assembly Service Commission Mr Moses Ojoawa; Commissioner 1, Mrs Yinyiade Ladoye; Commissioner 2, Hon Ogundoke Hassan; Commissioner 3, Hon Adekunle Alabanla; Commissioner 4, the clerk of the House, Mrs Oludara Awe and others.
