The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbomoso zone has dismissed what it described as attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intimidate voters through political rally in the town, insisting that the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration speak for the party.
The party stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Ogbomoso zonal leadership, noting that the recent unity rally organised by the APC in the ancient town—sarcastically described as an “Ankara carnival”—poses no threat to the PDP’s popularity and grassroots support.
According to the PDP, good governance, rather than showmanship, remains the true measure of political strength, stressing that Governor Makinde’s record of performance across Oyo State has continued to earn him widespread acceptance.
“We are not intimidated by any Ankara carnival or rented crowd paraded in Ogbomoso,” the statement read. “The people of Ogbomoso are enlightened and can clearly distinguish between propaganda and genuine governance. Governor Seyi Makinde’s achievements speak louder than noise-making.”
The party highlighted key accomplishments of the Makinde administration, including road construction and rehabilitation, improved workers’ welfare, regular payment of salaries and pensions, investments in education and healthcare, as well as infrastructural development across the state.
It added that it was laughable for individuals who claim that Governor Makinde has done nothing in the past six years to have travelled through the newly reconstructed Ibadan–Iseyin and Iseyin–Ogbomoso roads, among others, to attend their jamboree in Ogbomoso, noting that the roads themselves stand as clear evidence of the administration’s performance.
The PDP further accused the opposition of resorting to theatrics due to what it described as a lack of tangible achievements to present to the electorate, stressing that no amount of political rallies could erase the impact of good governance delivered by the current administration.
Reaffirming its confidence ahead of future elections, the Ogbomoso PDP said it remains firmly rooted at the grassroots and aligned with the aspirations of the people, urging residents to continue supporting the Makinde-led government for sustained development.
“The mandate of the people cannot be hijacked by carnivals,” the statement concluded. “Oyo State is on the right path, and the people of Ogbomoso know better.”
