University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka has promised that the institution would continue to offer a broad-based education to the students of the university in order to prepare them for the contemporary challenges of the 21st Century.
Prof. Olayinka made this pledge while signing a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).
According to the UI boss, “in today’s world, it is not enough for a graduate to parade only a certificate he got from the university in the labour market, the labour market has become so competitive. The only way any graduate can survive in the market is for him to possess a broad-based education, including having certificate of professional membership of relevant bodies which is a great advantage”
“It is against this background that we at the University of Ibadan have resolved to continue to be providing a broad-based education which we believe can stand our products in good stead in this competitive world”, he said, adding that, “it is our joy when our products are doing well in life”
Earlier, the CIPM President, Mr. Olawale Adediran had told the VC that the Institute was signing MOU with the premier University in Nigeria in order to encourage the students as well as the staff to join the professional body, pointing out that CIPM would equip its members with the capacity to manage all factors of production effectively and efficiently.
Mr. Adediran who was accompanied by several of his officers including Dr. Charles Ugwu, Mrs. Titi Ashiru and Mr. Gbenga Totoyi among others urged students to show interest in joining the Institute, saying it is more advantageous if the students join while still in school.
At the ceremony were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi, Dean of the Social Science, Prof. P.O. Olapegba, Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s office, Mr. Oluwole Dada among others.
