The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora Chapter, has successfully concluded its 2025 academic year with a colourful End-of-Year Special Event, marked by honours, wellness activities and celebration of outstanding achievements.

The two-day event, held at the institutionโ€™s 800-seater hall, attracted a large gathering of ASUP members, distinguished guests, members of the Governing Council and the Management of the institution, led by the Rector, Prof. Akinola Kehinde Akinlabi. The occasion underscored the spirit of unity, dedication and collective progress within the union.

Activities commenced on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, with a wellness walk around the campus aimed at promoting physical fitness and camaraderie among members. This was followed by a novelty football match between the ASUP OYSCATECH team and their counterparts from Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa (AOPE) Chapter. The OYSCATECH team emerged victorious, reflecting the unionโ€™s competitive and cooperative spirit. Chairperson of the organising committee, Dr. (Mrs) Olubukola Deborah Adelakun, commended the ASUP AOPE Chapter for honouring the invitation and sharing in the celebration of a productive year.

The main event held on Wednesday, December 17, began with a general health screening for academic staff. This was followed by a lecture titled โ€œWe Are What We Eatโ€, delivered by the guest speaker, Dtn. (Mrs) Ojo Oluwabunmi Vivian of the Department of Dietetics, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

A major highlight of the event was the honouring of retired academic staff for their years of dedicated service to the institution. Speaking on behalf of the retirees, former Deputy Rector, Dr. Ariyo Olusanjo Okunlola, expressed appreciation to the ASUP executives, led by Comrade Tiamiyu Mumini Bamidele, for their selfless service and exceptional leadership, describing the gesture as unprecedented in the history of the institution.

The union also conferred the ASUP Ambassador Award on a former Chapter Chairman, Comrade (Dr.) Babatunde Afeez Adeniyi, currently Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), in recognition of his commitment to the unity and growth of the union.

The Chairman of the occasion, High Chief Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke (FCA), was honoured with a Special Recognition Award for his invaluable contributions to society. Other award recipients included the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Amusan Damilare Gideon; former Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Sharafa Olanioye; and Hon. Abdul Rasheed Olanrewaju Ariwoola, for their exemplary support and service to society.

In his address, the ASUP Chapter Chairman, Comrade Tiamiyu Mumini Bamidele, highlighted several achievements recorded by the current executive, noting that they had significantly improved staff welfare and the academic environment. These include successful negotiation and payment of salary arrears and increments, tax reduction, retention of academic allowances, intervention in programme accreditation, constitution of the Governing Council, hosting of the maiden ASUP OYSCATECH colloquium and international conference, regular promotions, establishment of the ASUP Endwell Scheme, renovation of the union secretariat, procurement of office equipment, creation of the chapterโ€™s official website, and full participation in national ASUP activities.

Comrade Tiamiyu expressed gratitude to members for their solidarity, stating that the achievements recorded were a product of collective effort and dedication.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the General Secretary, Comrade Akanji Kayode Ayanwusi, who reaffirmed the commitment of the executive to safeguarding membersโ€™ interests and advancing the institution in the coming year.

Other members of the unionโ€™s executive include Comrade Akintonde Samuel Shina (Vice Chairman), Comrade Oyinlola Olajire Opeyemi (Assistant General Secretary), Comrade (Mrs) Adeniyi Omolola Alaba (Treasurer), Comrade Ajayi Sunday Adebowale (Financial Secretary), Comrade Adedokun Adewole (Auditor), Comrade (Mrs.) Godspower Opeyemi Olajumoke (Welfare Officer), and Comrade (Dr.) Adeola Olajide Olatunde (Publicity Secretary).
