Towards 2019: Oke Ogun, The Need For Resolution By Adesina Julius
">

Order is the first law in heaven. A state of harmony presuppose peace, growth and development in human society. Fundamentally, the act of politics is to organise societal relations towards achieving institutional order and development. Political society is constituted to regulate relations between men and groups, eliminate violence, greed, avarice, injustice sentiments, enmity. Killing, inequality and slavery.

Some people perceive Politics is an ideological difference while some people consider it ad emotional. However some other people call it “dirty games”. Why all these different perceptions?

Man has the capacity to love and the ability to hate other, but invariably, we more often choose the latter than the former. The inmate distinct in us seem to condole evil rather than good . it is easier for us to destroy than to create, to pull down than to build even a fully fledge adult nourished over decades can easily fall to hand of death in a moment.

Every conscientious citizen of this entity called Nigeria needs no seer or priest to divine to him through the Oracle that a great and calamitous danger is looming over the nation. And back home here in Oke Ogun one can easily deduce that the political atmosphere is fully charge with errors and terror.

For decades now we have been passing through various political periods, each with its own crises. We were told about the First republic, Second, third and this fourth republic we were not left out, kings and Queen’s have come and gone, rulers ruled and left whether good or bad a record has been written.

When the present administration started in 2015 it seems to everybody that four year is a long time but alas year 2019 is just some days away when Nigerian, Oke Ogun people included will again troop out to elect a set of new leaders and representation. But should we allow the unfortunate situation of 2015 and years back to repeat itself in 2019 ? or should we behave stupidly so that we won’t have reasons for sitting in Agodi Ibadan again ? and still continue to be marginalised ? NO, MAY GOD FORBID.

Politics from all perception is to aid development and improve the well being of the people but opposite is the case in our own area. Although rivalry is one of the features of politics but it should not be unhealthy instead of health one. As a popular saying that Politics is a game if chance therefore all our politicians in our Region Oke Ogun need Resolution.

Resolution is a firm decision and with determination we become what we want to become, and make ourselves one through it. Making resolution is like a candle wax that is still in the liquid state when it is easy to be shaped into any form before it solidifies. Therefore it is wise to make a resolution now on our position cum 2019 Election before it is too late. Had it been that we could not come together, echo in one voice and made a resolution then on the appointment of our indigenous son who cone from our region Oke Ogun as a minister we’ll not have produced a minister!

A Yoruba adage says “Eni to ba fe no bi Iya e se wole oko. Ko dupo oselu”(he who want to know how his/her mother got married should get into politics). It is in politics that we hear offensive songs and chants and all these hinders all the benefits of politics from coming down to our region.

Therefore my advice to our Leader and our Politicians is to embrace peace, make a resolution on an eminent noble, a cynosure person and s sellable candidate who our region will use as a Region standard bearer. Let there be dialogue in some issues that can cause havoc or disagreement in who to be the Region standard bearer. Because a house divided against itself can not stand.

We should not forget that politics is like a bag of gun powder which needs to be handled with care. Lest it explodes and wreck havoc in the community, town and region . we should shun violence, hooliganism, and politics of hatred. We should come together in accord. We should not misuse what the nature and creator has bestowed on our Region.

This is a region having the high percent of landmark in Oyo state, a region having 10 local government that has been the determinant in consequent Election into the Governor seat in Oyo state but our politics has not been played in a fair manner, bias, hatred, malice, slander, self interest are other of the day here in our Region .

Therefore, let us transfer the spirit of sportsmanship into the game of politics. There is need for us to pursue and consolidate peace, harmony, fair play, equity, justice and good neibourliness and forming the main cannon of Democracy.

Richard Nixon (a former U S President) once said “Leaders who do not meet, who do not talk out their differences, who do not understand each other run the risk inadvertently of pushing each other over the brink, not because they want war, but because they calculate what action may provoke war, therefore let meet Falk dialogue, settle, understand and stop maligning each other during electioneering campaign and forestall all looming trouble.

Adesina Julius. O (Prestige) writes from Oke Ogun. He is the
President, National Association of Oke Ogun Students(NAOOS), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife Chapter
