Oyo state police Command have arrested and paraded ten criminal suspects who have confessed to be responsible for series of armed robbery attacks in different parts of the state.
Out of the ten suspects paraded with handcuffs, claimed to have been sent to prison in the past, and later returned to the heinous crime.
Among them, Yekini Saheed ‘m’ (33) , Sunday Peter ‘m’ (27), and Mohammed Azeez ‘m’ (28), have all served various sentences at Agodi Prisons before returning to crime after been released.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude who led other senior police officers including Mr Sanusi Buba, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations told newsmen on Friday that Yekini Saheed and his gang had raided several houses, robbing victims of their phones, cash and other valuable property in the city of Ibadan and environs.
He said during the robbery, the deadly gang shot a victim in the eye at Ayedun and killed a night guard who stood in their during a robbery operation at Ehin Grammar area of Ibadan.
They suspects while answering questions from newsmen confessed to the attack and pleaded for clemency. One of the robbery suspects Jamiu Morufu ‘m’ (24) appealed for forgiveness, while others promised never to go back to crime when released.
Other criminal suspects paraded at the weekend were Lateef Olalekan ‘m’ (37), Ojo Adebayo ‘m’ (40), Olayiwola Akeem ‘m’ (28), Victor Joseph ‘m’ (25), Oluwaseun Aderibigbe ‘m’ (27), and Isaiah Rafiu ‘m’ (28).
Confessing to the crime, Oluwaseun Aderibigbe , a graduate from the University of Port-Harcourt said it was frustration out joblessness that forced him into crime , having waited for about five years without gainful employment.
He was to have broken into the apartment of her former boss in Lagos, where he did his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in the night time and carted away several valuable property including victim’s Sorenzo Kia Jeep in which the stolen valuables were taken away.
To cover his track, the Aderibigbe and his partner in crime, Isaiah Rafiu were said to have vandalized a CCTV camera installed in the house and made away with the PVR decoder.
The police Commissioner told newsmen that nemesis however caught up with the suspects when , through credible intelligence , they arrested at their criminal hideout at Cele Adaba, Apete area of Ibadan by operatives of Special Anti-Riot Squad .
Items recovered from the suspects included One Sorenzo Kia Jeep, a Dell laptop, one Samsung ipad, one Samsung S4 and an itel phone , a PVR CCTV decoder and assorted jewelry, expensive perfumes and four pieces of ankra fabric.
The state police boss who stated that all the suspects would be arraigned in court after conclusion of investigation, allayed fears of members of the public especially this period when ember months are around the corner.
He said “we are conscious of this , and we are resolutely determined to allay such fears by insulating the state from any form of criminal activities either before or during the period and even beyond.”
