The Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare has decried the increasing spate of insecurity in Ibadan, and other areas of Oyo State.
This is coming on the heels of the fracas that occurred at Iwo road yesterday, which lead to loss of lives and property.
Protesting traders took the corpse of one of the victims, Rahman Azeez who was reportedly stabbed to death, to the Governors office at Agodi Ibadan.
In a statement released by his office, Sunday Dare condemned the nefarious activities of thugs and miscreants, whose activities have remained unbridled by the government.
Dare said the State, which enjoyed peace and security during the administration of Governor Makinde’s predecessor, is gradually slipping back into a breeding ground for thuggery and hooliganism.
“Oyo State is very dear to me, the progress of Oyo is always on the top of my priorities, that is why the unsettling news of insecurity consistently being reported from Oyo State bothers me.
“Only a peaceful State can enjoy development, only a peaceful state can progress. I want to implore Governor Makinde to take charge of the issue of security and put it on the top of his priority list.
“The loss of lives that happened at Iwo road yesterday could have been avoided. The security architecture of the state needs to be revamped and shaken up” he said.
Dare also extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate situation, asking God to grant them the fortitude to bear the painful loss
