The General Editor, Politics and Supplement of Tribune newspapers, Mr Taiwo Adisa has been conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Media Arts with specialisation in Political Communication by the University of Abuja.
In a post on his Facebook account, Adisa, who until May 2023 served as the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, said he had realised a life long ambition.
He stated that the ambition to attain the peak of academic attainment started for him very early in life when many of his secondary school classmates used to call him Doctor.
According to him while the alias came because he used to take all the prices in physics, chemistry and Biology, in the early secondary school, his decision to read Arts subjects fired his determination to one day officially earn the ‘Doctor’ tag.
“I give God Almighty the praise for seeing me through a long journey at the University of Abuja, which on Monday November 24 conferred on me the PhD degree in Media Arts, with specialisation in Political Communication.
Dr. Adisa wrote: “I have plentiful gratitude to my maker who gave me the wherewithal to see this through and to friends and my family who believed in my ability to complete the seemingly unwinding process.
“Though I would say I’ve earned the tag of ‘Doctor’ as an alias in secondary school, when my classmates gave me the nickname because they thought I would read medicines a result of my excellence in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. But I chose to read Arts subjects in Form Four and many, even my teachers were disappointed. Even at that young age, I had decided that one day, I would work to earn the degree that would qualify me to be properly so addressed.
“I appreciate my allies in this pursuit, my lecturers and supervisors at the University of Abuja, my people at Tribune House, Ibadan, and Abuja as well as many of my well-wishers who stood by me with support, and prayers all the way. I cannot thank you all enough.”
