After securing provisional licence to operate passenger and freight services on existing rail tracks in Southwest, the South-West Development Commission (SWDC) has taken the next step of inspecting the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) assets in Lagos-Ogun-Oyo states corridor.
The commission’s Managing Director/CEO Director Dr. Charles ‘Diji Akinola led his team comprising executive directors, while Steve Long led its partnering team Crossrail International from the United Kingdom (UK). The NRC team was led by the director of operations Mr Akin Osinowo.
They inspected rail assets at Apapa and Yaba in Lagos; Papalanto freight yard and Lafarge factory in Ogun; and Moniya freight yard in Ibadan.
SWDC is working towards actualising the Southwest Rail, Agro-Industrial and Logistic (SW-RAIL) initiative, a regional rail connectivity project aimed at improving mobility and catalyse agro-industrial development across the region.
