The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has sworn in Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle Sunday, popularly known as DON, as the newly elected member representing Oyo Federal Constituency.
Hon. Oyekunle was sworn in following his victory in the August 16 bye-election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He is among five lawmakers recently elected to fill vacancies in the Green Chamber created by the deaths of four members and the selection of Hon. Dennis Idahosa as running mate to Senator Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 Edo State governorship election.
The House had, in 2024, lost four members to illness Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), and Olaide Akinremi (Oyo) while Oriyomi Onanuga passed away earlier in 2025.
According to INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won four of the five available seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured one.
Others who emerged victorious in the bye-elections include Omosede Igbinedion (Ovia South/Ovia West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency, Edo), Joseph Bagudu (Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna), and Mukhtar Rabiu (Garki/Babura Federal Constituency, Jigawa).
