The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has said incompetency and substandard materials applied to minimise cost of production caused the building collapse that occurred on Thursday at Awosika, Bodija, Ibadan.
He urged contractors to always reach out to relevant and certified agencies for sensitisation and advice on how to go about construction of standard storey building in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
Source said seven injured persons have so far been rescued from the rubble of the building, but it could not be ascertained if any life was lost in the incident yet.
The affected building was adjacent a new generation bank at Awosika area, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Sources said the incident occurred around 5:45AM when Muslim faithful were going for prayers.
