The local government, also called the grassroots government, is the first medium of bringing democracy to the people. It’s one of the most effective ways to build trust between the government and citizens; to create a system that works.
Oyo state has 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs), each headed by an elected Chairman, and it’s yet another time that we give these elections as much attention as we would the presidential and state elections.
Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission OYSIEC few months ago made a disclosure via a statement signed by its Chairman, Aare Islakia Abiola Olagunju that local government election will again hold in April 2024.
This is coming after the three years expiration of the current local government elected officers, it would be recalled that the last local government election was conducted in the state in May 2021.
The commission said that another election will be held on 27th April, 2024.
Many political gladiators and actors had since been warming up with different political permutations, lobbying and in some cases consultations across the local government.
Ibarapa North local government is one of the local government areas in Ibarapa zone of the state. Since its creation and with subsequent local government administration, it has also had it’s fair share of ups and downs.
Ibarapa North is a Local Government Area in Oyo State, Nigeria. It was created in 1996 from old Ifeloju local government. Its headquarters are in the town of Ayete.
Other notable towns in the local government are Tapa and Igangan. Each of the towns has quite a number of villages.
It has an area of 1,218 km2 and a population of 101,092 at the 2006 census, consisting of the Ibarapa people, a yoruba sub-ethnic grouping.
Ibarapa North local government before now has been on the success page of Oyo State due to impactful achievements of one of its proud Son who before now has served the state on several platforms and his image and integrity remains untainted and not damaged.
Sanitarian Siji Ganiyu of Alagbede Odofin compound Tapa 1, ward 09 of Ibarapa North Local Government who is also a leading Aspirant to the Chairmanship position in the coming contest has performed exploits in public offices he has earlier occupied.
Sanitarian Siji Ganiyu was in charge of the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) under the administration of late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his successes till now continue to speak for themselves.
During his time at OYSACA, there was serious reduction in HIV/AIDS prevalence across the state.
The Agency during the time in it’s wisdom put in place economic empowerment of HIV patients which at the time was not done in most states of the Federation, as well as mainstreaming of HIV in social sectors and
Institutionalization of HIV response. No wonder in April 2023, wife of the late former Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, Yeye Florence Ajimobi publicly on one of the most listened to radio in Ibadan, Fresh FM acknowledged the contribution of Siji Ganiyu at OYSACA under her watch. This was an endorsement which no one even among his peers has ever gotten.
Sanitarian Siji Ganiyu after his time at OYSACA was made the Provost, Oyo State College of Health Science And Technology Eleyele Ibadan, and his successes also continues like never before in the college.
Prominent among the outstanding achievements in the college included but not limited to massive infrastructural development of the college, introduction of new courses, Facilities upgrading, Construction of new facilities, and procurement of medical modern teaching equipments.
Also under the watch of Sanitarian Siji Ganiyu, there was NBTE Accreditation of courses (First of its kind), institutional accreditation by NBTE.
His tenure also paid much attention to human capital development, welfare package for staff and students, modern library for staff and students, among numerous many other development program.
Who then the CAP fits in Ibarapa North local Government as its Executive Chairman than Sanitarian Siji Ganiyu?
Siji Ganiyu tenure as Ibarapa North Local Government Chairman, God willing will definitely witness massive turn around and transformation of the local government in line with the vision of Governor Seyi Makinde for Grassroot Development.
