As the Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS), Oyo State chapter holds its annual Children Get Together, an Abuja based businessman and Founder, Otunba Hassan Olawale Giwa Foundation, Arc. Hassan Giwa has called for more parental care for the students.
This year’s Annual AMIS Children Get Together which was in honour of former Minister of Communication, Bar. Adebayo Shittu was held at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan on October 24th, 2019.
Architect Giwa, who was the Special Guest at the event commended the leadership of AMIS for speaking with one voice to propagate, formulate and implement policies to championing the interests of Muslim schools and the cause of Islam.
While advising the leadership of the association, Giwa urged them to come up with innovations and ideas that will enhance standard of education in member schools to enable the students to compete favourably without negating the fundamental principles of Islam.
He implored the parents to live up to expectations by giving priority to the education and wellbeing of their children.
In his opening address, the Oyo State Chairman, AMIS, Alhaji Lawal Abass disclosed that the purpose of the programme is to strengthening the unity among the member schools and children. He added that the association is aiming at providing sound and quality Islamic and Western education for the children.
He revealed that the choice to dedicating this year’s edition of the programme to Bar. Adebayo Shittu, who was a former Minister of Communication, was because of his antecedents as one of the founding fathers of the association.
Alhaji Abass appealed to the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to think twice on his proposition to double levies on private schools as the association is a partner in progress with government.
In his keynote address, the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Dawud Shangodoyin, who was represented by Mrs. Abiodun, appreciated the member school proprietors and proprietress for supporting the government by investing in education and future of the state.
Prof. Shangodoyin felicitated with the association and children, he advised them to always listen and obey their teachers in order to achieve the desired result.
The former Minister of Communication and the honorary, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, while appreciating the honour bestowed on him by the Oyo State chapter of AMIS pledged his commitment to the progress and development of the association.
The former Communication Minister expressed his happiness over the increase in the membership of the association which he said has increased from about ten to 2000 when it was founded, with Oyo State chapter as first branch.
Prof. Wole Abass of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, in his lecture stated that Islam as a religion encourages socialization that promote the religion fundamental principles. He added that a good Muslim must inculcate habits of good character, discipline and morality.
Prof. Abass, while commending the teachers who devoted their time to impacting knowledge into the children, urged parents to join hands with teachers to give the children positive education.
In attendance at the event is the Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator (Dr.) Kola Balogun, who was represented by Hon. Taoheed Ayorinde, Alhji AbdulGaniyy Opatole, Alhaja Shekinat Adekola among others.
