A member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Hon. Shina Peller, has expressed concern over the incessant rise of the COVID-19 cases in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
This was contained in a statement released by Hon. Peller’s Press Secretary, Kola Popoola, where the federal legislator described the rising number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state as worrisome and scary.
Part of the statement read:
“It is quite worrisome that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Oyo State keeps increasing on a daily basis. According to the figure released by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, on his Twitter handle on Friday night, the total number of confirmed cases is now 2,497. This is scary!
“I am even more disturbed with the alarming figure coming from my constituency alone. Out of the 191 confirmed new cases, 55 are from Iseyin, notwithstanding various sensitization programmes on the deadly COVID-19 pandemic being championed by governments, different groups, agencies and individuals including myself. This is quite disturbing!”
In addition, Hon. Peller called on individuals to support the efforts of the governments and relevant authorities in the fight against COVID-19, whilst he added that except everyone plays his role expectedly in terms of adhering strictly to social distancing order and other laid down preventive guidelines, conquering the virus may remain hard.
He said,”Our people really need to know that the battle against this dreadful disease can only be won if we all play our roles as expected of us, especially as it concerns maintaining social distancing and adhering strictly to all the laid down precautionary measures of the governments and health organizations.”
Conclusively, Hon. Shina Peller reminded all that the incessant rise of the new cases of COVID-19 in Oyo state and the country is an indication that the battle against the killer disease is far from being over, and urged all to be cautious of this fact.
“With the increasing number of confirmed cases in Oyo state and Nigeria at large, it is obvious that the war against COVID-19 is far from being over yet, and the earlier we all take this into cognizance in our dealings and activities, the better it will be for us. May God heal our land and the world of COVID-19 and other life-threatening diseases soon. Amen,” Hon. Peller concluded.
