Honourable representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Abiola Shina Peller has facilitated a 2-Day training for Youths on Leadership qualities across the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the state.
The 2-Day Leadership Training was organized by the Lead Generation Initiative (LGI) in collaboration with the YIAGA Africa, on Friday and Saturday (4th & 5th) of September, at Jogor Centre, Ibadan.
Hon. Shina Peller, the Chairman Board of Trustees in his remarks, maintained that the leadership training is to build a future for the next generation which has kick started in Ibadan, Oyo State capital and would be replicated round the 36 states of the Federation.
The Quilox boss speaking with newsmen during the training session noted that Lead Generation Initiative (LGI) is a non – governmental, non – profittable and non – political organization which is committed to creating more opportunities for teeming youths in changing the narration of their country’s leadership.
“Most of young Nigerians are tired of the present situation that’s why they focus on Big Brother Naija entertainment program. It’s hightime we setup a sustainable structure which we can be able to ride on in order to achieve a country of our wish.
“We are non – governmental, non – profittable, non – political organization which is committed to creating more opportunities for teeming youths in Nigeria.”
Also speaking about the structure of Nigeria Politics, Hon. Shina Abiola stressed that the majority of Nigerians at the Ward and grassroots level are informed about the Governance which makes the foundation of Nigeria politics” wack”.
“I believe it’s hightime we rewrite the story of our country, we can start from building our immediate environment and the leaders in Nigeria are the one to make policies to affect our daily lives. We are giving opportunity to our people to channel their creativity and aspiration into nation building.
“Nigeria Political Strategy is not working as we have the total of 8,809 wards in Nigeria and I can assure you that 95% of people at the grassroots (ward) level are not informed, it makes our foundation to be wack.
“This initiative is to change the narratives, our participant are from all the local governments in Nigeria and our requirements are to age between 18 – 55 years, their should be age bracket for Governance, Source of income must be stable because most politician has no source of income. Participants must have been living in the area he/she is coordinating for over 6 years and he must also have a cordial relatiship with stakeholders in the environment including religious leaders, traditional leaders, Market women and many others.
“LGI is created to be the face of this generation, it’s open to everybody interested across the 36 states of the Federation.”
The Executive Director, YIAGA Africa, Samson Itodo while presenting a paper on the theme “Organizing as Leadership Practice: People, Power, and Change” noted that a leader must have a core value of trust, integrity, professionalism, and excellence and innovation.
He added that a leader must have the trait of trustworthiness, transparency, high level of morality, ability to coordinate, understanding the culture and tradition of one’s immediate environment, charisma, love and respect, great integrity and sincerity.
Itodo further defined leadership as a means of “Taking responsibility to enable others achieve a common purpose”. He added that leadership is a way of life which is not necessarily a position.
A participant of the leadership training, Alh. Saheed Alabi from Ibadan North LG, Ward XI while speaking to newsmen during the session maintained that Nigerians must not relent to make sure the unborn generation have better life.
