The Chairman of Oorelope Local Government Area, Hon. Akeem Raheem, has urged the newly appointed secretary, supervisory councilors and others to the see their appointments as a call to service and not opportunity for self enrichment.
Raheem said this during the swearing in of the appointees at the local government headquarters in Igboho on Friday.
He urged them to work together with him to rebuild Oorelope local government and support the vision of Engineer Seyi Makinde on the four points agenda.
His words: “Since this is a huge responsibility and a call to service, therefore, then you need to be aware of the task ahead and be ready to give it your all. You must dare to be different; you must become wiser, more cautious and especially more patient. Awon Yoruba ma nso pe ‘ti omode ba gun oke agba, o ni lati gbon.’ I am happy that none of you is a young adult and so life experience must have taught you wisdom. But now, as politicians who are to serve the people, wisdom can never be too much, caution can never be in excess.
“Today, as you are sworn-in, I therefore, call on you to bring on your experiences in different spheres of life and let us work together to rebuild Oorelope. The mandate you have is to work with me to reposition this Local Government. You must give it your best.
“As an administrator, our vision aligns with the four point agenda of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, FNSE on security, health, education and expansion of the economy through Agribusiness. We have started well, implementing policies that will ensure adequate security for the local government and putting in place solid structures for the realization of improved primary healthcare, a better education system and an economy that is buoyant. But with all of you now on board, I am sure we will move faster.
“Let me quickly also drop this charge; your appointment is not a call to arm; it is not an opportunity to flex muscle with the Chairman, the Legislative arm or the Local Government officials in the Civil Service arm. Do not allow yourselves to be used by any political interest; we are here to work for our people and not to engage in supremacy battles. Yes, we will disagree but let us all make sure that we disagree only to agree. So, let the interest of the Local Government be paramount in your minds. Having said that much, let me call on the generality of our party faithful and supporters to put aside their differences and close ranks with a view to working together for the common good of our people. It is time to place the interest of the Local Government above individual selfish interest.
“At this juncture, may I now congratulate the appointees on their appointment and to remind them that by their appointment much is expected from them. Let me also add that you are not expected to serve sectional or parochial communal interest as the entire Local Government is now your primary constituency. You should therefore, see your appointment as a call to service and not an opportunity for self Enrichment. You will do well to also note that people are watching you and you should do everything humanly possible to ensure that the confidence reposed in you by this Government is not betrayed Government as we all know is a collective responsibility, as such, you must be ready at all times to identify with, support and defend every decision of the government.”
The new appointees included Hon Shittu Salaudeen Adelani- secretary, Rabiu Medinat Adewumi – Supervisory Councilor, Oni Michael Adeyemi – Supervisory Councilor, Yusuff Jimoh Olaide – Supervisory Councilor, Rasheed Jelili Abiodun – Supervisory Councilor, Adeleke Felecia Adebayo – Supervisory Councilor and Yusuf Jimoh Olaide – Supervisory Councilor.
