InsideOyo.com has been duly informed of the reason why Mr. Mudashiru AbdulGaniyu resigned his appointment as the Oyo State commissioner for special duties.
Opinions are divided on whether he was sacked or he voluntarily resigned from the government.
Only recently, more than four aides of Governor Abiola Ajimobi have resigned their appointment.
Ajimobi’s deputy chief of staff, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who was special adviser (health) and later commissioner for health during the first term was the first person to take what people described as a ‘bold step’. Mr. Babatunde Olaniyi aka Tio Common who was special assistant (broadcast media) also resigned followed by the special adviser (revenue and taxation) Mr Biyi Oloko, who was alleged to have resigned when he got information that the governor will sack him. It was also learnt that AFIJIO-born media strategist, Mr. Femi Ipadeola, who was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the governor did not resume office.
Close associates of the Igbeti-born former Nigerian Tribune editor said the need to ‘redeem’ his integrity made him quit.
The senior journalist was very buoyant financially and always ready to assist people, even with his last kobo, before he accepted the appointment. It was gathered.
“Before he became commissioner, he was the one helping some of us. Even I call him at the eleventh hour, I am very sure he is going to bail me out. It was not until he got to government that things started dwindling. The demand from people became much. And there was nothing he could have done than to give. His office only exist on paper. As I talk to you, he is unable to shouder many of his responsibilities as his Emgee Publishing Limited which had become gainful suffered as he was on leave of absense,”a source told Inside Oyo.
Another source told Inside Oyo: “Early after the cabinet was constituted, the Governor at the Exco chambers asked the new commissioners about their official cars and the SSG responded that none of them has vehicle. The Governor asked about the vehicles used by the former commissioners which were given to them as ‘take away’. The SSG and Head of Service, HOS, reminded him that he asked them to retrieve all the cars from all the former Commissioners and the Governor exclaimed that “Ha! Now I know why the previous commissioners were not happy to see me whenever I met them at functions.” The Governor also asked the SSG and HOS if the severance allowances of the former commissioners and other political appointees have been paid and they told him NO. He directed that the papers for the payment should be done immediately. But when the SSG informed him that the document had already been prepared, the Governor made a U-turn and said that there is no money. Since that day, the ex-commissioner had confided in his godfathers that he had formed opinion that no benefit will accrue to any of them in that government. He wanted to resign at that time, but he was prevailed upon by his people.”
Though unconfirmed, a government source, however, revealed that it was the governor who sacked AbdulGaniyu from his cabinet.
“Few weeks ago, he was said to have offended the governor when he ‘messed’ up an assignment given to him. Dissatisfied with him, the governor was said to have penciled him down for sack after he was unable to give tangible reason fo failing the ‘assignment’ given to him. But he was unaware of the impending sack. He was billed to attend a capacity training for top civil servants when the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli told him not to come to the event. He was said to have asked him to see him at his office, where he gave him the letter,” another source told InsideOyo.com
He was said to have turned in his resignation letter few hours after announcing it on Facebook.
On his facebook account- Muda Ganiyu, he wrote: “Alhamdulillah! Alhamdulillah!! Alhamdulillahi Rabil-Alameen.
“Dear friends, I wish to let you know that I have finished my tour of duty as Oyo State Commissioner of Special Duties. I thank you all for your prayers and support while it lasted. God bless you all!”
Efforts to get him talk was unsuccessful.
