Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka was born to the family of Late Chief Lasisi Oyedokun Ilaka and Chief Mrs Ilaka of Ilaka compound, Apinni, Oyo Town, Oyo State. The odyssey of Luqman Oyebisi Ilakas journey through life started at Grange School, Ikeja, Lagos.
Further, he enrolled at the Government College, Ibadan, Oyo State in 1973 till 1977 where he obtained his Ordinary Level Certificate. His thirst for knowledge informed his enrolement for Advanced level course which he successfully concluded in 1978 at Ansar-Ud-deen College, Ikeja, Lagos.
Thereafter, he proceeded to University of Ife [Now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife] in 1978. Luqman Oyebisi Ilakas quest for further academic studies informed his enrolement at the prestigious University of London where he bagged a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honours. He also attended the College of Law, Lancaster Gate, London in 1990 where he made umpteen academic achievement. In 1993, he attended Chartered Institute of Taxation of England and Wales .
A professional to the core, Luqman is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of England and Wales. A United Kingdom based chartered Tax and Financial Adviser. A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Insurance, he also qualified as a Mortgage Advance Planner of the same institute. The Legal titan and Tax consultant has had numerous work experiences in both public and private sectors. His first professional pupilage was with Her Magesty’s Inspector of Texas Paddington District dealing with income tax, capital gains tax and corporate tax cases. He also had a stint at Salfiti and Co Solicitors based in London. He worked on diverse areas of law in the course of his stint particularly, land, trust and commercial cases. Between 1994 and 1997, he worked with the Guardian Royal Exchange, GRE Maidstone, Kent where he served as Tax/Financial Consultant dealing with life assurance, investments, inheritance tax and mortgage cases.
Luqman also worked as Associate Partner J. Rothschild Allum gate House, Theobalds Road, Elstree Herts where he was responsible to advice clients on life assurance, investments [offshore and onshore] Inheritance Tax planning, Trusts and settlements, Mortgage and Real Estate planning. Luqman Ilaka has since 1994 been the Executive Director of the following companies to wit: Grosvenor Place Property and Investment Nig. Ltd. Director, Parner Total Reality Company, an estate agency based in United Kingdom.
He is also the Sole Proprietor of Mortgage Assistance, a mortgage brokerage based in the United Kingdom. Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka has been actively involved in politics for upwards of 11 years. His sterling qualities and intimidating profile caught the awe of Federal Government and this culminated in his appointment as a member of the Board of Directors, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation. He is a selfless and visionary man who desires to impact positively on his community and everybody that comes in contact with him. Out of his prodigious talent to the development of Oyo State, he facilitated as member of Board of Directors of NDIC the construction of a Lecture Classroom, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo; ICT center fully equipped for the use of students of the Polytechnic, Ibadan as well as Government College, Ibadan.
A consummate politician and astute professional per excellence, Ilaka Joined Senator Rashidi Ladoja at the inception of Accord Party just three months before the 2011 election and contested as senator to represent Oyo Central Senatorial District where he emerged the first runner up. An election controversially won by ACN candidate.
Accord Party has fully grown to become an enviable party through the unflinching support of Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka and other like minds. Not yet in office, he has contributed immensely towards the development of Oyo Central Senatorial District and Oyo State in general. Luqman Oyebisi Ilakas undying passion for service to humanity culminated in the establishment of “LUQMAN OYEBISI ILAKA FOUNDATON” a registered non-governmental organization saddled with the responsibility of making life abundant and more meaningful to the people.
In acknowledgement of his philanthropic works, he was conferred with the prestigious title of ‘Ladilu of Oyo Kingdom’ by His Royal Highness, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, Alaafin of Oyo in 2006.
The Ladilu of Oyo contested in the 2019 general elections under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party for Oyo Central senatorial district but lost to the All Progressives Congress’s Teslim Folarin.
