A governorship aspirant under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Alhaji Yunus Akintunde, has hit major towns in the state with his Xmas rice.
Sources told www.insideoyo.com that the package will be distributed to partymen, community and religious leaders while a largest percentage will be given to the masses, especially market women.
It was further gathered that distribution started last Sunday, from Oyo, Akintunde’s hometown. The donor, a former commissioner for works and transport, was said to have purchased two trailer loads.
Speaking with insideoyo.com, Akintunde clarified that the gesture was his own little way to assist the people, especially as the country is just recovering from economic downturn. He explained that he would be happy if others in his shoes can render their own little assistance to the people as society would be better for it.
He added that “this is just the biggest ever, I have been doing things like this for long. It is not even because I am aspiring. I just felt that I needed to thank God and this idea came to mind. It is for everybody, irrespective of religious and political background, to celebrate this yuletide season. And you will see that unlike others, we are giving out something reasonable. Each beneficiary will get at least 5kg of rice. We hope to do more.
