Executive Chairman of Oorelope Local Government, Igboho, Hon. Akeem Adepoju Raheem, on Monday, donated a Golf Salon Car, five motorcycles and generating sets to boost security in the local government, declaring that his government will leave no stone unturned to ensure the security of the local government.
Raheem, who maintained that his administration will continue to build on the initiative of the Governor Seyi Makinde government in the area of security, donated the vehicle and motorcycles to local vigilante members, while he gave generating sets to the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Amotekun Corps in the council.
This was as the chairman handed over an Operation Burst vehicle, which the council refurbished following an accident in Igboho a few months ago.
Raheem equally distributed educational materials including register booklets, chalks and other items to schools in the council as well as cash gifts to widows, stating that the actions taken were in line with the commitment of the Makinde administration to make life more meaningful for residents.
Speaking at the event held at the local government Secretariat premises, Hon. Raheem said: “Today, in furtherance of our commitment to ensure the security of lives and properties in our domain, we are donating these car and motorcycles as well generating sets to local vigilantes, the Police, Civil Defence and Amotekun.
“This effort is complementary to the initiative of our Leader and Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, whose administration in the last two years, has ensured that security receives top attention.
“As you all know, His Excellency believes that the security of Oyo State will enable its people to become productive and its economy more buoyant. We share this vision for Oorelope Local Government and we will leave no stone unturned to ensure the security of lives and properties.
“Apart from the donations to security agencies, we have also handed over an Operation Burst vehicle, which we refurbished for them after it was involved in an accident while on assignment at the local government.
“We have also started a conditional cash transfer programme that will ensure that the vulnerable are empowered with cash. Today, we are giving scores of our widows cash gifts to enable them navigate through life in their difficult times.
“The conditional cash transfer is also in line with Engr. Makinde government’s commitment to lifting the people from poverty to prosperity.
“Similarly, we have provided educational materials including register booklets and chalks, among other items, to schools to emphasise our commitment to the improvement of the education sector in the council.
Speaking shortly after receiving the vehicle, motorcycles and other items, local vigilante members, security officers, selected widows and heads of schools commended the local government chairman for embarking on an effort, which they described as commendable.
They praised the chairman for following the example of Governor Makinde in terms of good governance, stating that the people of the local government have made the right choice with the election of the PDP man into office.
The programme was attended by the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Sodiq Ademola and chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party ((PDP) in the council.
