Three days after officially defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the Labour Party, LP, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi has met with local government executives of the party in Ogbomoso town.
A statement by his media aide, Ayoade Peter Adegbola, stated that Ogunwuyi, who represents Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, met with local and ward chairmen in the three council areas on Saturday morning.
According to Ogunwuyi, who represented Ogbomoso South State Constituency between 2011 and 2015, he and his followers defected to the APC to aid the growth and development of his constituency.
He added that he was defecting with thousands of members, noting that they were card-carrying members of LP before their official defection on Thursday.
He said, “In 2015, we played a vital role in the Labour Party’s victory, and in the last election, we mobilised thousands of persons for the party. That made us to win the election.
“Today (Saturday), we are here to officially declare for the APC executive members in the 3 local governments. We left the Labour Party this week and we are now in the progressives fold. We have come to find out that the Labour Party is certainly not going to the same destination we are going, and where we are going is a place of peace, a place of wealth and Godliness.”
In his remarks, the chairman of Ogbomoso North APC, Mr. Solomon Ayanlola described the defection as a “massive move” that would enhance the victory of the party in the state.
Also, his Ogbomoso South APC counterpart, Chief M.A Oguntoye, who received the lawmaker and his followers, assured that there would be no discrimination against any of them.
“We are more than sure that these people can best be described as active and credible politicians and not political jobbers looking for food and relevance. They are of significant importance in Oyo state politics most especially, the land of Valiant.”
